There are very many factors as to why someone has an aggressive personality. Some are biological, such as brain structure, grey matter, serotonin, etc., and some are environmental, such as pollutants, income and family. I researched the most prevalent of these factors to better understand why someone would act aggressive. These factors more describe how vulnerable one might be to violent behavior since it’s ultimately the person do decide to act on their thoughts. Using combinations of these factors, therapist are able to determine how big a risk someone might pose on the public’s wellbeing.

Actually writing my paper was a little difficult. This was because there is very limited evidence since studying the brain and nerve system is extremely difficult. Often MRIs are necessary to study the brain. These often reveal interesting results of surplus or deficits of certain chemicals. These chemicals may control many behavioral characteristics such as decision making, attention spans, emotions and more. The difficulty of connecting the findings with a persons behavior is that many people don’t exhibit the same emotions as they “should”. This is because nobody is predetermined to act a certain way. This made finding evidence difficult. For example a high percentage of violent attacks were committed by people suffering from antisocial personality disorder or other mental disability. However, the vast majority of people suffering from antisocial personality disorder were described as very pleasant and not aggressive at all. Despite the difficulties, I enjoyed writing about biological factors the most. Studying the brain lead to many discoveries like prefrontal grey matter. Which is matter that controls decision making and people with a deficit of this grey matter are typically more juvenile and aggressive. Scientists are currently trying to find ways to use this information to benefit communities’ wellbeing. Although our technology is not yet sufficient, understanding why these factors contribute to violent behavior better, could help lower crime rates in high crime rate areas.
